Chapter Twenty-Four

The two friends embraced before they sat down. Fashion week had been a very busy time for both of them, Charity with her sales and her boutique to cash in on the crowd, and Debra with her networking and outreach. Not to mention the dozens of quotes and interviews she gave over the shoes people saw Jasmine Bellini wearing once or twice in public. She would kiss that woman if it was necessary. The girls embraced for a long time before sitting down, and their regular drinks orders were promptly placed in front of them.

Charity giggled. “We come here too often.”

Debra shook her head. “Either that, or we don’t put enough variety in our diet.”

“But I like my mimosas.”

“And I love my red wine.”

The two girls clinked their glasses together before leaning back. It was tradition. After a hell-like week, Sunday evenings were reserved for them to get together, rant, catch up, and enjoy one another’s company. They each took a long pull from their drinks before sitting them down, and then…

Debra drew in a deep breath. “So I met someone new.”

Charity grinned. “Someone new? Weren’t you just out on a date?”

“It was one date.”

“According to Jonathan, it was an overnight date.”

“According to Jonathan,” Debra mocked.

“Aren’t you going to tell me about that date first?”

“What happened is exactly what you think happened.”

Charity’s eyebrows rose. “And now there’s another man? I’ve never known you to play the field like this.”

“Well, I’m not technically playing the field. Brayden, the guy from this week? He got a little too clingy a little too quickly.”

“Oh, those are the worst. You need another drink for that one.”

Debra giggled. “He was a nice ride, but the text messages after the fact were a little hard to swallow. Too many, and too deep. I’m a busy woman. I can’t be sending love letters every ten minutes.”

“Well, did you have fun?”

“The best kind of fun there is.”

Charity held up her glass. “Then cheers to the fun you had, and the fun you will have with the new guy.”

Debra knocked her glass against Charity’s. “You mean the fun I already had.”

Giggles escaped her lips as Charity’s face fell. Debra sipped her wine, giving her best friend time to scrape her jaw off the floor. Oh, yes. Debra had officially gone out with Sam. The night before, to be exact. He was exactly what she had needed to unwind from a very busy fashion week, and the two of them did it up right.

Charity leaned forward. “Okay. Spill. All of it. Now.”

She smiled. “Okay. His name is Sam. Sam Kenworth.”

“Good. We have a last name. Means talking happened.”

Debra narrowed her eyes. “Yes, talking happened. He took me to dinner.”

“Before dragging you back to his place, I’m sure.”

“What if I took him back to mine?”

Charity’s jaw dropped. “You did not.”

“No, you crazy woman. You know I don’t let men into my humble space. Yes, Sam took me home, but we aren’t there in the story yet. Be patient.”

“You can’t keep throwing me for loops like this, Debra.
